About ipotane
Our Mission
ipotane was founded with a simple yet powerful mission: to help readers everywhere explore more deeply, through approachable guidance and free tools that make planning a reading goal, estimating reading time, gauging your reading speed, and pacing a book clearer, more rewarding, and more practical.
We believe that everyone who reads or dreams of reading more, from first-time readers to lifelong book lovers, deserves access to accurate tools, comprehensive resources, and trustworthy guidance. Our platform bridges the gap between a daunting reading list and confident, well-informed decisions about books and literature, philosophy and ideas, world mythology and folklore, storytelling, self-exploration, and reading smart.
Through our free collection of tools, we help readers make informed decisions about reading times, reading speed, books per year, page counts, reading goals, and audiobook lengths. Every tool is designed with real-world applicability in mind, tested against the day-to-day realities of choosing, pacing, and finishing a book, and continuously improved based on user feedback. To go deeper, explore our World of Stories museum, with galleries on the great books that shaped us, the myths and legends of gods and heroes, the great philosophers, and the written word from cuneiform to the printing press.
Our Story
ipotane emerged from a need we experienced firsthand. While trying to sort through conflicting advice and scattered references, we noticed a common challenge: the lack of accessible, accurate tools for the everyday decisions that come with planning a reading journey, setting a reading goal, and making the most of every book.
Deep reading relies heavily on curiosity and a little know-how, which are invaluable. However, a confident reader also benefits from clear answers about how long a book will take, how fast you actually read, how many books you can finish in a year, how many pages a text runs, and how to pace a reading goal. We saw an opportunity to combine well-researched knowledge of literature and ideas with modern tools to help people make confident decisions about every book.
Our team began developing tools that we wished existed when we tackled our first big reading lists. Each calculator and guide was created to solve real problems encountered when planning a reading goal, estimating a book's length, or pacing an unfamiliar text. We tested every tool against real-world numbers, refined the logic based on feedback, and ensured that the results reflected current, widely accepted reading research.
Today, ipotane serves active users worldwide, from first-time readers to lifelong literature enthusiasts. Our tools have helped people plan reading goals, estimate reading times, gauge reading speed, count pages, plan audiobook listening, and make more deliberate, confident reading decisions.

Our team includes experienced readers, editors, writers, and reviewers who bring years of combined experience to tool development. We regularly consult literary references and trusted experts to ensure our content reflects current best practices.
